Mentee Question

Asked by faiza siddiqui

Hi Uzzal , I have 11+ years of experience in software development. Currently working with Ericsson wherein in my role is Senior developer/Tech Lead. I mostly work on hld/lld preps, planning, requirement gathering, code reviews, development etc. I am looking for job change to transition my role to software architect position. in my current work profile I am not getting satisfactory exposure/opportunity to take challenging tasks that I can bring to the table because the project size is very small. Also management is not able to find good opportunity/project for me wherein I can utilise my skillset and get handson. I have not changed my job since 8 years , my exposure to DSA concepts is very less. Looking for a mentor who can guide me. I want target tech giants like Microsoft, Adobe, Wallmart etc.

Hi Faiza,

You can start with basics array, linked list, queues, stack and basic problem solving questions and once you think you are starting to get a hang of this then can jump to more intermediate data structures tree, trie, etc.

I beleive building a habit of solving problems daily and reading more about current dev tech with LLD HLD will help you move in direction of finding what you are looking for.

You can setup a 1:1 session if you wish to discuss more.

Hi Faiza,

Firstly, its great that you are looking to upskill and grow in your career.

I understand it can be challenging to switch after a long time at one company but you are the right platform.

Now, the complexity and scale of problems does have an impact it is not that significant. What matters more is how you portray it in your resume and if the right keywords are aligning with the JD of the roles you want to crack.(ATS match)

Also, the interviews for Architect/Principal Engineer roles I have taken. The problem solving process and knowledge depth matters more.

The sections you can divide the prep can be into -

  1. DSA,
  2. Previous projects - CARL framework,
  3. Technical knowldge depth(frameworks, databases, langauages etc)
  4. System Design(HLD and LLD).

We can plan a roadmap based on current skills and your target roles. Feel free to book a trial.
